Saolta outing at The Organic Centre for PPN Members
|
Saolta are a Global Citizenship Education strategic partnership programme for the Adult and Community Education (ACE) sector in Ireland between Irish Aid and a consortium of organisations. Saolta explores a variety of global issues with stakeholders in the ACE sector and encourages informed action across Irish society. Issues such as poverty, inequality and climate change feature strongly as areas of exploration.
Saolta met with PPN members on Sat last at the Organic Centre, where PPN members heard of their work, were given a guided tour and treated to amazing food, all sponsored by Saolta.

Leitrim Climate Action Plan
|
Leitrim County Council Climate Action Plan 2024 – 2029 (‘the Plan’) aims to enhance climate resilience, increase energy efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, across Leitrim County Council’s own assets, services, and infrastructure, whilst also demonstrating a broader role of inspiring, leading and facilitating other sectors, to meet their own climate targets and ambitions.

This free online course aims to make information about voting and active citizenship easier to access. Voting and active citizenship empower you to have your voice heard about important issues affecting your everyday life. When you have a better idea about how elections and referendums work, you have a better chance at making a difference in your life and your community.
The course is available as Gaeilge, in Ukrainian and in Polish.

Draft Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) Scheme 2024-2029
|
Leitrim County Council is establishing new Strategic Policy Committees (SPC’s).
The purpose of the SPC’s are to advise and assist the Council in the formulation, development and review of policy.
The four SPC’s being established are as follows:
• Economic and Enterprise Development
• Physical Environment
• Local Development
• Social Development
The closing date for receipt of submissions is 4pm on Thursday 8th August 2024.

National Trails Conference
|
Would your community group like to attend Ireland’s First National Trails Conference on Mon 2nd and Tue 3rd Sept in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon?
Ireland’s first National Trails Conference will take place in Carrick-on-Shannon 31st August – 3rd September 2024 and Leitrim PPN are gathering Expressions of Interest from community groups registered with the PPN for concession tickets on Mon 2nd Sept and or Tue 3rd Sept for the Conference in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon.
At the Landmark Hotel Carrick, attendees will hear from keynote speakers, visit exhibitions, attend trail-building workshops, learn about new trail development techniques and connect with like-minded individuals.
Email info@leitrimppn.ie for concession tickets if your community group wish to attend so we can issue a discount code for the 1 or 2 day conference. The registration fee includes access to all sessions, workshops, networking events, exhibit areas, and conference materials, tea/coffee and a hot lunch on Mon 2nd and or Tue 3rd Sept – you can opt to book for 1 or two days.

Funding for European Projects for Adult Education & Community Development
|
The Adult Education team at Léargas is here to support any organisation that is new to European projects.
Funding can support:
- Training and job shadowing opportunities for staff and volunteers in European countries
- International learning experiences for participants in adult learning and community programmes
- Collaboration between organisations in European countries for exchange of practice and shared resource development.

Community Centres Investment Fund Refurbishment Grant
|
Funding will be available under 2 Categories, with grants of between €10,000 and €100,000 available:
Category 1: Small scale projects/improvements to facilities - €10,000 to €25,000
Category 2: Larger scale projects - €25,001 to €100,000
Match funding is required for both Categories: a minimum of 5% for Category 1 and a minimum of 10% for Category 2.
The portal to submit an application will open TODAY July 29th.

Seniors Alert Scheme (SAS)
|
The Seniors Alert Scheme (SAS) has been established to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities. It provides funding for a personal monitored alarm, connected to a contact centre to enable older persons of 65 or older and of limited means, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.

|
Hungry EcoCities aims to accelerate responsible innovation in Europe’s agri-food value chains by integrating art-driven experimentation and prototyping. This second Open Call will showcase how this approach can enhance AI-enabled responsible innovation for a sustainable food chain.

New open call for Farmer Health, Safety and Wellbeing Projects
|
The projects will be funded from the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine’s dedicated farm safety budget.
€850,000 is available in the fund.
Successful projects under this call should cover one or more of the following themes:
- Farm safety
- Farmers physical health
- Farmer mental health and wellbeing

John McGahern Award - Deadline Extended
|
As part of the Iron Mountain Literature Festival and with the support of the McGahern Estate Leitrim County Council developed the John McGahern Award to encourage the development of emerging Irish writers and to pay tribute to the exceptional contribution of John McGahern to literature, and to Leitrim.

Vision Sports Ireland Associate Club Funding
|
Vision Sports Ireland announced the launch of the Associate Club Funding Grant. Associate Club Funding is designed to support clubs and organisations that promote and facilitate sports for individuals with vision impairments.
Clubs will be allocated funding between the value of €500 and €2,000 based on the information provided in the application.

Strategic Funding - The Arts Council
|
The purpose of Strategic Funding is to invest in and support the organisations needed to lead, sustain and develop the arts in Ireland.

|
Culture Ireland offers support to Irish professional artists, arts organisations and international presenters to present work by Irish artists at significant international venues and festivals.
In supporting an event, Culture Ireland offers grant funding towards costs which relate directly to the international presentation of the event, i.e. travel and travel related costs such as transport, accommodation and subsistence.
Deadline: 1st Sept (for projects from 15th Nov onwards).

Movement for Good 2024 Large Grants
|
Ecclesiastical Insurance Ireland, in partnership with its parent company, the Benefact Group, is once again opening its heart and wallet to support the incredible work of Irish charities. This year, a generous €500,000 is up for grabs through the Movement for Good 2024 large grant awards, aimed at funding projects that will leave a lasting legacy in our communities.
Applications for the large grants of €10,000 or more are now open.

Play for Nature Grant Program
|
Call for proposals aimed at biodiversity conservation associations around the world to support practical actions to protect ecosystems and endangered species, particularly through sport.
Two levels of financial support are available: grants of €5,000 and grants of €15,000
Technical support will be provided to project sponsors throughout the project, in particular to help them organise an awareness-raising sports event.

Community Food Initiative
|
The Community Food Initiative (CFI) is a programme that aims to positively influence the eating habits of families with children across the Island of Ireland. The programme runs over a three year cycle (2022-24) and its purpose is to support the development of knowledge and skills around food and cooking. The programme is funded by safefood, an All-island government body responsible for the promotion of food safety and healthy eating. The programme is managed by SECAD Partnership on behalf of safefood.
Funding Interested organisations can apply for funding up to a maximum of €2,000 or £1,720 to deliver a project in their local area.
Applicant Organisation Criteria Organisations must:
• Be community-led organisations with a legal status and appropriate governance structure
• Be experienced in the management of public funds which support social inclusion initiatives
• Currently employ and manage full time professionals with community development experience
• Have experience of working with the target group identified
• Be supporting other broader community initiatives through their work
• Provide supports across communities irrespective of age, race or creed

Funding Initiative to promote UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
|
The UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is on 17th October and has had international focus since its formal UN adoption in 1992. In Ireland, the day is promoted by the 17 October Committee and All Together in Dignity (ATD) Ireland.
The Department of Social Protection is providing funding to support anti-poverty groups to organise local, regional or national activities to promote awareness of the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

113 community projects set to receive funding under the Communities Integration Fund 2024
|
Through this Fund, a total of €509,791 will be made available to support local community-based organisations across Ireland to play a greater role in welcoming and integrating migrants and refugees.
The Communities Integration Fund has been in place since 2017 and arises from Action 51 of the Migrant Integration Strategy, which calls for funding to be made available to local communities throughout Ireland to promote the integration of migrants and refugees. Since its inception, the Communities Integration Fund has now supported over 930 projects, with grant funding totaling €4.32 million.

Free Online Counselling for people with Anxiety and Depression
|
The service is paid for by the HSE and available to people referred by GP's, primary care psychologists, the national counselling service and Jigsaw mental health charity.
The HSE and SilverCloud are working together to provide access nationally to evidence based digital mental health and wellbeing support.
If you are a GP or work in primary care counselling or Jigsaw you can make a referral to the SilverCloud service via email.

€23m funding for disability capital projects in 2024
|
One of the projects being supported to progress in 2024 include:

Capital developments planned by the HSE for 2024 include projects that provide accommodation for disability network teams, development of Day Services facilities across the country, fitting out adult and children’s residential and respite houses and other residential projects.
The following project in Leitrim is on the list of disabilities projects currently included with the Capital Plan. This will expand as the year continues.

The National Museum of Ireland welcome groups from within communities that wish to visit the Museum and engage with their Collections.

Community First Responders (CFR) Ireland needs your help to formulate a National AED Register
|
When CFR Ireland has received the information and verifies the AED the information will be passed to the National Ambulance Service for upload to their Emergency Dispatch System so that when a member of the public calls for an ambulance in the event of a cardiac arrest the call taker will be able to direct the caller to their nearest AED therefore increasing the patients chances of survival.

Katrina is a volunteer, co-founder and current Chairperson of Eslin CFR Co. Leitrim since it was set up in 2019. Eslin CFR is a registered PPN member.
